If you’re travelling to us from Dublin then take Dublin Coach, or J.J. Kavanagh’s Coach as Bus Éireann don’t run a service to Kilkenny anymore. If you’re coming from Waterford or Cork then Dublin Coach is the best way to get here. You can check getthere.ie for travel times or transportforireland.ie for a journey planner.
When you arrive in Kilkenny get off at Ormonde Road (rather than the train station), turn left onto Patrick street and left again onto the High street. Walk straight down High street and continue on for 5 mins until it joins Parliament street. We are down there on the right hand side opposite The Pumphouse pub and next door to the Watergate Theatre.
From the Dublin/Carlow direction: You will come into Kilkenny off the M9 motorway.
Turn left at the first big roundabout and follow signs to the city centre, then turn right at next roundabout. Now follow this road all the way down until you come to the traffic lights where the railway station and MacDonagh shopping centre are on your right. Turn left here onto John street.
Follow along, go over the bridge and take the immediate right turn after the bridge.
Follow this road around the back of the supermarket car park and at the traffic lights turn right.
You are now on Parliament street and we are down on the right hand side (number 35 with a big red door). For parking continue down to the end of Parliament street through Irishtown and the at the lights turn left onto Dean street. You will see a car park on the right hand side of the road indicated by a large P sign. There is also another car park at the end of this street on the right near the church.
Driving in from the Cork/Clonmel direction: Continue straight over the first roundabout you meet coming into Kilkenny and continue straight over the next small roundabout where Hotel Kilkenny is on your right. At the next roundabout turn left. Continue along this road all the way down until you come to another roundabout and turn right here onto Dean street.
There is a car park here on the left hand side near the Church indicated by a large P sign and another one a bit further down the street also on the left. From this street it is a few mins walk to the Hostel. Just go down to the traffic lights, turn right, walk through Irishtown past the small shops and continue up past the Watergate Theatre and we are on the left side of the road.
Whilst we don’t have our own car park we suggest that you park in one of the car parks on Dean street which is just around the corner from the Hostel. Buy a ticket from the ticket machine there.
Parking at these car parks is €2 for the day from 8am til 7pm Monday to Saturday with the first hour being free. Parking on Bank Holidays, after 7pm and all day Sunday is free.
